In Boston, MA - August 1765, the Sons of Liberty hung an effigy of Andrew Oliver, the stamp act distributor & destroyed Stamp Act Headquarters as well. The colonies may be able to free themselves from the Stamp Act after all! The House of Burgesses adopted four of the resolutions. It added that anyone in support of Parliament taxing Virginians should be considered an enemy of the colony. ![]() It specified that Virginians should not pay taxes unless it was voted on by the Virginia House of Burgesses. The resolves stated that Americans possessed the same rights as the English including the right to be taxed only by their own representatives. Virginia House of Burgesses adopted Patrick Henry's Stamp Act Resolves. He submitted several resolutions to his colony's assembly to deny Parliament the right to tax the colonies.
